Donations and partnerships result in new Downtown climbing boulder for all to enjoy

Rock climbing and bouldering have just become even more accessible in Squamish thanks to a new climbing boulder that has arrived in Downtown Squamish. The boulder was proposed in the 2013 “Outdoor Recreation Playground Concept Plan” as part of the Downtown Squamish Transformation Initiative which aims to provide family-oriented activities and give visitors a hands-on experience of Squamish’s classic recreational offerings. The boulder is located in Pavilion Park on Cleveland Avenue beside the site of the summer Squamish Farmers’ Market. Read More

District of Squamish announces new CAO

The new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the District of Squamish is a familiar face both at Municipal Hall and on some of the most expert mountain bike trails in the area. Linda Glenday, MBA, has been promoted to CAO from her position as Deputy CAO after spending the last four months acting as the interim leader of the organization. Glenday’s leadership style, experience in both the public and private sectors, and her keen ability to seek out creative solutions in pursuit of innovation, efficiency and excellence led to her successful appointment. District of Squamish receives 2015 Award of Excellence in GIS

The District of Squamish has been selected as the winner of the 2015 Award of Excellence for their implementation of ArcGIS, geographic information system software used for data management, mapping and operational planning. The District of Squamish is looking for artists with experience in producing artwork for public spaces for Squamish’s first public art competition. This new public art project called “Connecting Squamish Neighbourhoods” will see two or more permanent public art installations within different Squamish neighbourhoods. High streamflow advisory issued for Howe Sound and the Stawamus River

A high streamflow advisory has been issued by the River Forecast Centre for the South Coast, including Howe Sound and the Stawamus River. Residents are urged to use extra caution around all local waterways and tributaries, and keep well back from the river banks - especially with children and pets. Squamish donations being collected for Whistler's Alpine townhouse fire

The District of Squamish is very saddened to hear about Tuesday's Whistler townhouse fire that has displaced dozens of our neighbouring residents. Two Squamish donation drop-off locations have been set-up to collect much-needed items for those affected. Donations can be dropped off at Nesters Market - Squamish or at Brennan Park Recreation Centre (open Remembrance Day until 3:30 p.m. and then back to regular hours Thursday). Read More

District of Squamish Launches Organics Curbside Collection Survey

Waste reduction can be a hot topic, especially in a town where a new organics curbside collection program has changed the way we handle our garbage. The District of Squamish has launched a survey that will provide residents with an opportunity to share their feedback about the food scraps and yard waste curbside collection program to determine which areas of the program could be improved.
