July 6, 2015 – Sea-to-Sky Corridor - The Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority has issued a Wildfire Smoke Advisory for the Sea-to-Sky Corridor and surrounding areas because of forest fire smoke that is affecting areas from Howe Sound through Squamish and Whistler to Pemberton and surrounding areas. Smoke concentrations will vary widely as winds, fire behaviour and temperatures change. This situation is expected to persist until meteorological conditions change. Read More »

As part of Local Government Awareness Week, the District held a contest among elementary school students to learn what they would do if they were Mayor for a Day. With over 150 entries this year - more than double last year - the passion and support from our young people was overwhelming! A wildfire began burning in the Elaho Valley Sunday, June 14, 2015. Reports from the Wildfire Management Branch[http://apps.gov.bc.ca/pub/dmf-viewer/?siteid=5131184402955244847] indicate that the fire is approximately 15 to 20 hectares in size, and appears to have been human caused. Resources devoted to the fire include 22 crew, two fallers and two helicopters. Read More »
