High Streamflow Advisory issued for Squamish River

10:30 a.m. - The BC River Forecast Centre is issuing a High Streamflow Advisory for the Squamish River near Brackendale, and surrounding creeks and tributaries.

Overnight heavy rainfall from 60 - 75 mm over Howe Sound and the Squamish river watershed, and snow melt due to warm temperatures, have caused rapid rises in the river. The current and forecast flow conditions include:

Environment and Climate Change Canada forecast about 10 mm rainfall for today over these regions and river levels are expected to rise slightly and be stable this evening. A break in the rain is forecast overnight tonight into Thursday which should allow the rivers to stabilize and then recede.

The public is cautioned to stay clear of rivers during rain events due to quickly flowing water and potentially unstable riverbanks.

The River Forecast Centre will continue to monitor conditions and will provide an update on Wednesday.
