Vapour testing to begin in neighbourhoods throughout Squamish

The District of Squamish will be conducting video inspection and vapour testing of the sanitary sewer system in neighbourhoods throughout Squamish, including Brackendale, Tantalus Road, North Yards, the Industrial Park, Dentville and Hospital Hill. The testing will help identify and address any potential leaks within the sanitary sewer pipes as well as to improve efficiencies at the Waste Water Treatment Plant. Work is scheduled to take place during the week of April 4 through the end of June.

Residents will experience virtually no impact as a result of the work taking place, however the contractor may be required to enter some properties in order to gain manhole access for video inspection. Residents may also experience toilet water bubbling and splashing as a result of sanitary pipe flushing and are therefore advised to keep toilet lids down during the working hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Vapour testing is a harmless process that sends a white-to-gray coloured vapour through the sanitary system that is non-toxic, non-staining and completely odourless. There is no cause for alarm. Residents are advised to pour approximately ½ litre of water into floor drains and a small amount of water into all sinks or other fixtures that have not been used for a long period of time in order to prevent vapour from getting into your home.

Project signage will be displayed in the neighbourhoods where the work is taking place. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the video inspection/vapour testing contractor Dave Gonyea at 250.815.5775 or Sam Skalsvik, District of Squamish Engineering Technician at 604.815.5051.
