What’s Proposed
37930 Third Avenue
TEMPORARY USE PERMIT NO. 42 (DELEGATED)
The District of Squamish has initiated a Temporary Use Permit application for a District-owned facility located at 37930 Third Avenue (former Fire Hall, behind Squamish Public Library). The existing building is occupied by Squamish Helping Hands Society (SHHS). SHHS continues to lease and operate a Drop-In Centre at this location; main overnight emergency shelter accommodations are now hosted off-site at a transitional housing facility at 1066 Wilson Crescent (approved by rezoning in 2014).
The 37930 Third Avenue property is zoned P-2 (Assembly District). The proposal is to allow for overflow shelter accommodations in the event of extreme weather or emergency (in addition to the designated spaces for shelter use at 1066 Wilson). Emergency shelter accommodation is not currently permitted in the P2 Zone. This TUP pertains to the Third Avenue facility specifically. If approved, the TUP would allow the use for a period of up to 3 years.
