We are facing the greatest challenge of our time. If we act now, we can protect our community. Let’s build a low-carbon future together.
Acting together for a brighter future.
In order to preserve our quality of life in Squamish, the community must reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030 and achieve zero emissions by 2050.
Calculate your carbon emissions using this emissions calculator, graciously shared with us by the District of Saanich. Emissions calculations are very similar because our two communities are both in BC and are of similar size, although there are a few differences (such as emissions associated with waste). The District of Squamish is aiming to develop a carbon calculator for our community, which should become available in 2021.
Small actions can make a big impact.
We are building a low-carbon future in Squamish and we need your help. We can each make an impact by taking small steps in our daily lives. Transportation, waste and buildings are major large contributors to our local greenhouse gas emissions, which is why we are focusing our efforts in these areas. Download this handy checklist for tips on how you can reduce your individual greenhouse gas emissions.
“We don't need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.”
- Anne Marie Bonneau, Zero Waste Chef
