Councillor Doug Race was raised in Vancouver and attended the University of British Columbia. He graduated with Degrees in Commerce and Law and was called to the Bar of the Province of British Columbia in 1973. Doug practiced for over 37 years before retiring in October 2008.
In 1978, Doug moved to Whistler from Vancouver and joined Harley Paul in practice. He opened the Whistler office of what is now Race & Company. In 1986, Doug moved to Squamish where he practiced from his Squamish office of Race & Company until his retirement in 2008. He is actively involved in the community, being a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Squamish and having served as Chair of a recent hospital fundraising campaign.
Doug is an active sailor and has participated in yacht races all over North America and Europe. He also enjoys skiing and hiking in the local mountains, and is an active recreational runner and cyclist.
