Advance Registration and List of Electors

Squamish’s Voters List is being prepared for the general local election to be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018.

On October 20, 2018, Squamish voters will elect a Mayor, six Councillors and two School Trustees. If you were registered in Squamish for the last provincial election or the 2014 Local Government Election, you should automatically be on the Squamish List of Electors. However, if you wish to confirm that your name is on the list, or you have changed your name or address, visit the Elections BC website or contact the District of Squamish Election Office at 604.815.5006 or 604.815.5023.


Advanced registration is available until August 28, 2018. For additional information and for the Elections BC registration application please visit the elections BC website here. Advanced registration can be done online, by phone at 1.800.661.8683, by mail, by fax or email, or in person.   

The Provincial List of Voters becomes the District of Squamish Register of Resident Electors as of August 29, 2018. If not on the list, qualified RESIDENT ELECTORS can register at the time they vote after providing evidence of identity and place of residence (two pieces of ID, one must have a signature and one should show residence).

Qualified NON-RESIDENT PROPERTY ELECTORS (persons that own property in Squamish but do not reside in Squamish) who have not pre-registered and wish to register at the time they vote must provide evidence of identity and property ownership (i.e.state of title certificate). Property tax notice does not show all owners where there are more than two. Also required is the consent of other registered owners of the property, if applicable. Call the Election Office if you have questions.


You are eligible to register as an elector, if you:
• are age 18 or older; and
• are a Canadian citizen (no landed immigrants or corporations); and
• have lived in BC for at least 6 months immediately before registering; and
• have lived in Squamish for at least 30 days immediately before registering
(OR have owned real property registered in your name in Squamish for at least 30 days immediately before the day you register and live in another BC municipality**); and are not disqualified by law from voting.

Starting September 4, 2018 until the close of general voting on October 20, 2018 a copy of the Voters List will, upon signature, be available for public inspection in the Legislative Services Department, Municipal Hall, 37955 Second Avenue, Squamish from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, except statutory holidays.


If you are an eligible elector in Squamish you may object to the registration of a person on the Voters List, by submitting a written objection to the Chief Election Officer at Municipal Hall, during the period 9 a.m. September 4, 2018 to 4 p.m. September 14, 2018.


Voters may request that their address and other information be omitted from or obscured on the Voters List to protect their privacy or security. Contact the Election Office for more details.
