BC Hydro issues Spill Notice for Cheakamus Dam discharge

The District of Squamish has received a Spill Notice from BC Hydro informing that the discharge from the Cheakamus Dam has increased to 200 cubic metres per second due to high inflows.

BC Hydro is required to issue a Spill Notice when discharges are greater than 170 cubic metres per second.

Rapid increases in water levels within the next 24 hours are possible. There is the potential for top of river bank flows (bankfull conditions).

Residents downstream of Daisy Lake Dam should use caution around rivers and streams, and be aware that levels may increase quickly and without warning. The District of Squamish is monitoring the situation and taking precautionary measures.

Residents who may be experiencing flooding are asked to contact Municipal Hall at 604-892-5217, or the 24-hour emergency line outside of business hours at 604-815-4040.
