Landfill
Location, Hours, Contact and Key Information:
The Squamish Landfill is located on Landfill Road in Brackendale off of Highway 99 opposite the Alice Lake exit.
The Recycle Depot is located before the Landfill weigh scale.
The Landfill only accepts waste originating from within the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District.

- Please keep children and pets in your vehicle for their safety.
- The removal of waste materials (scavenging) is prohibited.
- A limited number of vehicles are allowed in at one time, so you may encounter delays. Please respect the traffic lights and be patient.
- If your load of garbage has over 5%, by weight or volume, of recyclable or compostable material(s), or non-accepted material (e.g. dirt), the Banned Surcharge will be applied.
Have Multiple Material Types?
Please note that to receive the different material rates, you must tell the Scale Attendant and go over the scale separately for each material. If you go over the scale and drop-off all the materials at once, you will be charged the highest tipping fee applicable for the entire load's weight.
Waste Diversion
Many items that are disposed of as garbage could have been reused or recycled. See below for the recyclable materials accepted at the Recycle Depot and Transfer Station. Visit the Waste Diversion page to learn what goes where.

The fine for illegal dumping of any waste anywhere within the District: $10,000 per occurrence per day.

Prohibited Items** from disposal at the Landfill include:
- Agricultural waste
- Waste that is on fire, smouldering, flammable or explosive
- Biomedical waste
- Hazardous waste (other than asbestos)
- Dead animals
- Excrement or manure, excluding household pet waste
- Soil and invasive species contaminated soil
- Fabricated objects exceeding 1.2 metres in width or thickness and 2.5 metres in length or 3 cubic metres in volume
- Drywall / Gypsum (not permitted for disposal as garbage or asbestos waste)
- Railway ties or large timber treated with creosote

In general, items are prohibited from being disposed of as garbage at the Landfill as there is an alternative disposal option that handles the material responsibly.
Landfill Receipt or Ticket Dispute:
To report disputes including incorrect charges, email: solidwaste@squamish.ca, and include the following information:
- Photo of the ticket
- Description of the situation, including reason for dispute
- Contact information (full name, phone number, email and mailing address)
Solid Waste Operations will review the information and follow up with customers directly. Please note that the review process can take at least a month for a full investigation, followed by processing. Your patience is appreciated.
