Your Council in Action
There are several types of meetings where District of Squamish Council gather to discuss, debate and make decisions or recommendations on important matters affecting the Squamish community. Members of the public are invited to attend Council meetings in-person or virtually via Live Stream. Regular Business Meetings are held in Council Chambers, Municipal Hall, 37955 Second Avenue, Squamish, starting at 6 p.m.
Types of Council Meetings
Regular Council Meetings
Formal meetings chaired by District of Squamish Mayor where Council members make decisions or move toward making decisions about bylaws, spending, services, and more.
Committee of the Whole Meetings
A less formal gathering to discuss issues. In these meetings, Council reviews and gathers information on an issue and gives direction to staff or make a recommendation that will be brought forward to a Regular Council meeting.
Special Council Meetings
Typically scheduled to address more urgent business, these meetings are usually open to the public, unless closed by a vote of Council.
Public Hearings
A formal meeting where citizens can share their views and have input on proposed community changes, such as zoning or official community plan amendments.
Closed (In-Camera) Meetings
Closed meetings are not open to the public as they are scheduled to discuss and make decisions on personnel, land, labour or employee negotiations, law enforcement, litigation or potential litigation and other information that is prohibited from public disclosure.
