Mayor's Office gets a little extra help from Squamish's youngest citizens
As part of Local Government Awareness Week, the District held a contest among elementary school students to learn what they would do if they were Mayor for a Day. With over 150 entries this year - more than double last year - the passion and support from our young people was overwhelming! We very much appreciate all of the schools support in enabling students to participate in this special event.
With such fantastic entries it was extremely difficult to choose just one winner, so 3 winners were selected; a Mayor and two Deputies.
- Zora Jajic - Mayor (Stawamus Elementary School, Grade 5)
- James Howarth - Deputy Mayor (Squamish Montessori School, Grade 2)
- Aedan Loughran- Deputy Mayor (Squamish Elementary School, Grade 5)
Earlier this week, all three winners and a friend were picked up from school in a fire truck for a tour of some of the District facilities and an opportunity to share their ideas with Mayor Patricia Heintzman. The students were then returned to school with a pizza lunch for their class!
Congratulations Zora, James and Aedan. Our future is in good hands!
