Poor Air Quality in Squamish due to Wildfire Smoke
Current smoky skies have affected today's air quality in Squamish with the Air Quality Health Index currently at level 10+, indicating very high risks from exposure.
For those who may be irritated by the smoky skies here today, please reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors especially if you experience symptoms such as coughing and throat irritation, and stay inside if you have breathing difficulties. Find an indoor place that’s cool and ventilated. Using an air conditioner that cools and filters air may help. If you open the windows you may let in more polluted air. If your home isn’t air-conditioned, air-conditioned public facilities are available to support Squamish residents during regular operating hours.
People with pre-existing health conditions, the elderly, infants, children and sensitive individuals are more likely to experience health effects from smoke exposure. Avoid strenuous activities outdoors. Children and the elderly should also avoid outdoor physical exertion.
According to the Air Quality Health Index for Squamish, forecasts are expected to have improved air quality over the next few days.
