Upcoming Brennan Park Recreation Centre Facility Closures

As the Brennan Park Recreation Centre renovations continue, several facility closures are required to maintain public and staff safety. The current phase of the renovation work is approximately 60% complete and the contractor is working towards completion of this $21M phase by spring 2026. The Tantalus Room and ice rink change rooms are complete, and the new customer service area is 80% complete. The south lobby, universal washrooms, and the Black Tusk Room will re-open in mid September through the fall, followed by the main lobby, new reception desk, and mezzanine/elevator in early 2026.

We understand the inconvenience that facility closures cause for the community. Renovating an aging building, while maintaining safe public access to the facility, is a significant task. As expected, this first phase of the renovation of Brennan Park Recreation Centre has proven challenging, with multiple workarounds required to address unforeseen conditions within the building. We are making progress and are working towards completion of this first phase by spring 2026.

Closure Dates:

Staff have strategically planned to ensure facility-wide closure dates are aligned with the annual pool shutdown to mitigate overall impact.

September 3 through October 17 - Aquatic Centre annual maintenance closure

The annual maintenance shutdown is required to complete annual work to ensure the longevity of the Aquatic Centre and to help prevent larger, more costly problems from occurring. In addition, Brennan Park renovation work in the ceiling of the aquatic centre will take place while the pool is drained. We recognize this is inconvenient given the unexpected spring closure due to Vancouver Coastal Health’s Order, however the maintenance work must remain on an annual schedule, and the renovation work is required. The closure has been extended to accommodate this additional work as well as facility wide closures required for the renovation project (see below for further details).

The pool schedule will resume on Saturday, October 18, 2025.

Due to the nature of construction activities taking place on the following dates, the entire facility (arena, aquatic centre, programming rooms, lobby) will need to remain closed as safe access to the community and staff cannot be provided while these activities take place.
