Updates made to Downtown Squamish parking map
Effective Saturday, September 15, the parking lot located at the end of Victoria Street, east of Loggers Lane, will be permanently closed for public space improvements required as part of the Sirocco multifamily development (38050 Loggers Lane).
The proposed public improvements constructed by the developer will include:
- Pedestrian and emergency vehicle access enhancements;
- A public access dock;
- Lighting and street furniture;
- Access to a new waterfront walkway and cycling trail.
Where to Park:
- Approximately 250 two-hour parking spots are available in the heart of the business and shopping hub along Cleveland and Second Avenues, and the cross streets between Pemberton Avenue and Victoria Street. The two-hour maximum allows for high turnover of spots to accommodate visitors, customers and clients of Downtown Squamish businesses.
- Longer-term parking without a daily limit is available at the gravel lot at the end of Main Street, and the gravel area near the BC Hydro site at north end of Downtown. This lot is also suitable for RV and commercial vehicles. Parking beyond two hours is also available on side streets just outside the core Cleveland/Second Avenue corridor.
- Bus/RV and unrestricted parking is available on Third Avenue north of Pemberton Avenue behind the Chieftain Mall centre.
The District of Squamish strives to ensure that Downtown parking is readily available, and provide systems and infrastructure to support residents, businesses and visitors, while encouraging a transition from private vehicle use to alternate modes of transportation throughout Squamish.
A Request for Proposals has been issued to look into the costs, type and location for a future parkade structure. Also, transit routes and schedules servicing downtown continue to improve each year.
