Know Before You Go is message to visitors this weekend
As the Dryden Creek Wildfire response continues, visitors to Squamish are encouraged to Know Before You Go. Visitors are urged to stay informed and recreate responsibly this weekend as emergency and operational resources are dedicated to the wildfire response. A State of Local Emergency Remains in place and many properties closest to the fire remain under Evacuation Alert.
The District asks visitors to be mindful and respectful of the extensive emergency response effort underway.
Air Quality
- Vancouver Coastal Health is monitoring the air quality in the community. Breathing in wildfire smoke can be dangerous to some individuals, especially during pregnancy, infancy, and early childhood. Other people at risk include older adults, people with a current or recent respiratory infection, and people with pre-existing chronic conditions. Advisories
- Alice Lake Provincial Park remains closed. View BC Parks active advisories for the latest.
- A number of recreation trails are closed. The trail closure applies to all users including hikers, mountain bikers and climbers. Please obey all signage. Check our trail closures map.
- Travel on Highway 99 remains open, however has been reduced to one lane travelling north through the vicinity of the fire. The posted speed limit has been reduced to 70 km/hour through this zone. Check Drive BC for the most up-to-date information.
- The public should stay clear of the fire area to avoid interference with fire suppression efforts.
- Please conserve water to support fire suppression efforts.
- All fires, including campfires are banned throughout the District of Squamish. This ban includes fireworks, sky lanterns, burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description, binary exploding targets, air curtain burners, tiki and similar kinds of torches; and chimineas.
- Lighting a fire in any public space such as riverbanks, parks and beaches is strictly prohibited within the District of Squamish boundaries.
- The Squamish Sikh Parade and Festival, originally planned for Saturday, June 14, has been postponed due to the wildfire situation.
