Tote Exchange and Selection

The request period for 2027 garbage tote size exchange is now open. The deadline to submit your request is October 31, 2026 and the exchanges will occur in Spring 2027. The request period for exchanges in 2026 is closed.

Solid Waste Utility fees are primarily determined by the size of the garbage bin you select. This standard fee includes one organics and one recycling bin. 

Overview:

• Extra Organics Bin: An additional annual fee applies if you request a second organics bin.
  
  
• Larger Recycling Bin: There is no extra annual charge for a larger recycling bin.
  
  
• Service Change Fee: Effective January 2026, a $60 fee is charged for each change made to your curbside collection services. This includes changing the size of your existing bins or adding/removing extra containers. For example:
  • Changing your garbage bin size would be $60
  • Adding an extra organic container would be another $60.
• Fee Purpose: The fees cover the costs of the collection service, with higher charges for larger garbage bins to reflect the increased impact on the landfill. 

** No new large garbage totes will be distributed. If you select large, you will receive one small tote and one medium tote. If you have questions please contact the Sustainability Department.

Exchange information

• Deadline for all change requests is October 31, 2026, which includes: 
  • Change garbage tote size to larger* or smaller.
  • Change recycling tote size. Choose between medium (standard) and large. 
  • Add or remove second organics tote. There will be an additional annual fee for this service. 
• Change requests cannot be accepted by telephone.
• Only property owners, including landlords, can request a change.
• Your 2026 Utilities bill will reflect your new solid waste fee and the $60 change fee.

*Note: The form must be completed once for each dwelling unit that receives service. If there are two suites in a house, the property owner must submit the form twice.

The collection, use and disclosure of personal information is subject to the provisions of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Personal information collected through this form will only be used for the purpose of garbage tote size exchange. The information collected will be retained and disposed according to the District of Squamish Records Management Bylaw No. 2622, 2019 and the District of Squamish Records Classification and Retention Schedule.
