Drainage & Dikes

Drainage

The District of Squamish has many kilometres of storm systems and hundreds of catch basins/storm drains (metal grates in the road or sidewalk curb). Maintaining the flow of water through culverts and into catch basins is critical to avoiding localized flooding and ensuring safe roadways.

During heavy rainfall, the District’s roads and drainage crews check the catch basins/storm drains and clear debris and any garbage that may impede storm water flow.

You can help by checking the storm drains near your property and clearing any debris, garbage, or snow from culverts, catch basins and storm drains

Staff also provide quotes to residents for installation of culverts. Please contact Community Development to make an application for culvert installations at 604.892.5217.

Dikes

Dikes are patrolled and maintained throughout the year, with grass cutting, vegetation control, and grading being completed during the summer months. Staff monitor the pumping stations, water levels and general outfall maintenance 24 hours a day during the heavy rain seasons.
