Arctic outflow issued for Howe Sound

Environment Canada has issued an Arctic Outflow warning for Howe Sound with wind chill values ranging from minus 15 to minus 25 expected tonight.

Rising surface pressures over the B.C. interior will continue to drive arctic air through mainland valleys and inlets this week. Beginning tonight, frigid temperatures and stronger outflow winds are expected.

Temperatures will begin to rebound during the latter half of this week.

Residents can prepare for extreme weather conditions by:

  • Dressing appropriately;
  • Minimizing exposed skin with hats, scarves and mittens or gloves;
  • Ensuring that shelter is provided for pets and outdoor animals;
  • Limiting time outside;
  • Watch for signs of frostbite or hypothermia.
