The District of Squamish is excited to launch a revamped website navigation and improved accessibility features on Squamish.ca. The improvements provide the public with user-friendly navigation, simplified design elements, and improved search functions to help serve the diverse needs of the community.
The website navigation improvements were informed by user feedback, a thorough analytics review, and a review of over 60 local government websites and best practices recommended by industry experts. The District’s Accessibility Committee provided input to ensure that current and ongoing accessibility improvements align with current standards and work towards best practices.
Ongoing efforts will continue for the District’s website updates, and future work is dedicated to further improving accessibility functions, focusing specifically on ensuring compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
Future, ongoing improvements will include:
- Descriptive links and headers to facilitate easier navigation
- Simplified language throughout the site
- Improved color contrast for better readability
- A “skip to content” feature for users with screen readers and keyboards
As part of the District’s commitment to continuous improvement, the community is invited to explore the new features and offer feedback as content enhancements and functionality upgrades move forward.
