Environment Canada issues Rainfall Warning for Howe Sound

Rainfall warning issued for: Howe Sound, B.C.

Current details:
Rain, at times heavy, is expected.

Significant rainfall and rising freezing levels.

What: Total rainfall amounts 70 to 120 mm.

When: Beginning overnight Saturday, continuing into Monday.

Where: Metro Vancouver - Central including City of Vanouver, Burnaby, and New Westminster, North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver, Northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge, Fraser Valley - West including Abbotsford, Howe Sound, Sunshine Coast - Gibsons to Earls Cove.

Remarks: A prolonged period of heavy rain and rising freezing levels will begin overnight tonight. The heaviest rainfall is expected during the day on Sunday and Sunday night; periods of rain will continue into Monday before tapering off in the afternoon. Further east, towards Abbotsford, the heaviest rainfall is expected Sunday night and into Monday morning.

Freezing levels will continue to rise during the day on Sunday and stay significantly elevated into next week.

Total rainfall amounts are expected to vary with location. The highest amounts will be near the coastal mountains, from the Northshore through the Coquitlam region. By Monday afternoon between 80 to 120mm can be expected. The remaining regions can expect 70 to 100mm.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
