An aging radio tower on Thunderbird Ridge is being replaced. The tower is a critical piece of public safety infrastructure, providing radio communications for Squamish Fire Rescue, Bylaw and Public Works. It is not used for any high frequency cellular, LTE or 5G services.
The tower is nearing end of life and poses a potential safety risk, especially during wind storms.
Timeframe: November 10 through mid-December.
Impact: The project is divided into two phases:
Phase 1: Tower Foundation (Anchor bolt drilling and concrete pouring)
Timeframe: Tentative start date - November 10; Anticipated duration: 15 working days.
Hours of work: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Phase 2: Tower delivery, assembly and installation plus dismantlement and removal of the old tower.
Timeframe: Tentative start date - November 30; Anticipated duration: 15 working days.
Hours of work: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
