Slow Down Downtown
*New* Effective February 17, 2026, speed limits on all streets in the Downtown Squamish and Oceanfront neighbourhoods is reduced to 30 km/h. This change was implemented in response to community feedback gathered through an online mapping tool and resident survey to express concerns related to traffic speeds.
A public survey launched in summer 2024 indicated that support for speed limit reductions was highest for the Downtown and Oceanfront area. The Downtown and Oceanfront area was also identified through ICBC data as a location with a higher number of reported accidents. Lowering posted speed limits in this area is an opportunity to improve safety for all road users.
