Downtown Public Realm and Streetscapes Design Guidelines

Overview

Streetscape Design Guidelines consist of the Downtown Public Realm and Streetscape Design Guidelines,  Streetscape Universal Accessibility Guidelines, and District of Squamish Street Lighting Design Criteria. These three documents are guideline documents regulated within the Subdivision and Development Control Bylaw No. 2649, 2018 (could link to this). They combine policy, standards, and illustrative guidance to ensure consistent, inclusive, and quality streetscape design across the District of Squamish.

Streetscape Accessibility Guidelines

Accessibility guidelines cover Streetscape Universal Accessibility means a public realm streetscape design or streetscape furnishing that considers and promotes equity and inclusiveness and enables any person to perform activities independently and achieve equivalent results.

These guidelines are intended to be applied throughout all District streetscapes, parks and public infrastructure. The guidelines were reviewed and guided by District of Squamish Accessibility Committee, local accessibility consultants and Squamish workshops with Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) and accessibility stakeholders. This is a document made by accessible users for accessible use.
