DP 371 - 37322 Galbraith Road
Carbon Engineering Ltd. (CE) and BC Research Incorporated are planning to build a carbon capture pilot plant in and around the blue barn at 37322 Galbraith Road on the Squamish Oceanfront peninsula (see location map). CE is a leading proponent of “direct air capture” technology, which seeks to scrub carbon dioxide directly from air, as another means of combating global greenhouse gas emissions. CE is a finalist in the $25M Virgin Earth Challenge, and has expressed keen interest in locating this project in Squamish. The pilot plant is tightly focused on demonstrating the viability of the process, so it will run for several months to demonstrate carbon dioxide capture performance, but will not produce any product for sale or revenue.
If approved, the delegated development permit will allow minor modifications to the blue barn site including a concrete pad and equipment located exterior to the building screened with fencing and limited landscaping.
Please see the September 29 article in the Squamish Chief for more information on the technology, or refer to Carbon Engineering’s website for additional info.
