Council to hear about FortisBC Temporary Use Permit applications at February 14 Committee of the Whole

The District of Squamish has received Temporary Use Permit (TUP) applications from FortisBC for 1) a workforce lodge on private land to support temporary workforce lodging and 2) a temporary construction yard, both related to the construction of the Eagle Mountain - Woodfibre Gas Pipeline. The project is estimated to begin mid-2023 and continue through the end of 2025.

District staff will present the two FortisBC Temporary Use Permit applications to Council at the next Committee of the Whole Meeting.

When: Tuesday, February 14 at 9:30 a.m.

Where: Council Chambers and online at Squamish.ca

What: Council will receive an update from staff followed by Council feedback and discussion.

Please note there will no opportunity for the public to comment during this meeting. Seating is limited in Council Chambers and overflow seating will be available in the lobby. Interested members of the public are encouraged to watch the livestream (and video recording) at Squamish.ca.

How to provide input:

Public input will be considered as part of the TUP process. A TUP hearing for citizens to have their say before Council will be scheduled in March at Brennan Park Recreation Centre.

Written and email submissions can be delivered to Municipal Hall addressed to the Director of Community Planning or emailed to hearing@squamish.ca.

Proponent-hosted meeting:

FortisBC will host a Public Information Meeting in March for residents to learn more about the workforce lodge and construction yard projects (TUP applications).

What is a TUP:

A Temporary Use Permit (TUP) allows for a temporary land use of up to three years where that use is not permitted under the Zoning Bylaw. The District has the ability to specify conditions, allow and regulate buildings/structures and require the restoration of lands to specified conditions through the TUP process. Project management plans will require prior approval by the Environmental Assessment Office before the TUP is considered for final approval.
