New Adventure Hubs offer amenities to trail users to help mitigate neighbourhood and environmental impacts
Collaboration with School District 48 to offer parking is a pilot project
The District of Squamish has installed four Adventure Hubs near popular trailheads to offer off-street parking and washroom facilities, and to minimize neighbourhood and environmental impacts. Each hub is equipped with a bike tool station and porta potty, and three are equipped with a bike wash.
School District 48 has provided access to two school parking lots outside of school times to support the District of Squamish in this initiative. This is a pilot project to test whether the partnership will work for all parties.
“Squamish’s reputation as a world-class recreation hub continues to grow and we are mindful that our infrastructure must keep up to minimize the impact on area residents and our environment,” says District of Squamish Mayor Patricia Heintzman. “Our thanks to School District 48 for partnering with us on two of these hubs as having access to the school parking lots is a significant benefit.”
Squamish Adventure Hubs are located in the following areas:
- Don Ross Middle School, 42091 Ross Road, Lower Parking Lot* (pictured above)
- Bottom of Legacy Climb, Mamquam Road above Quest University Canada (does not include a bike wash as there is no running water available at this location).
- Garibaldi Highlands Elementary School, 2590 Portree Way*
- 2458 Mamquam Road Parking Lot
- Brennan Park Recreation Centre (existing hub)
*Adventure Hub parking at Don Ross Middle School and Garibaldi Highlands Elementary School is not permitted during regular school hours, Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
All hubs close at 10 p.m. daily.
This is a District of Squamish pilot project launched with the support of School District 48, the Squamish Offroad Cycling Association and the Squamish Trails Society to provide convenient amenities to Squamish trail users.
Adventure Hub users are asked to help keep the sites clean, provide feedback and report any issues to the District via 604.815.4040 (24-hours).
