Rainfall warning in effect

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Howe Sound with heavy rain and strong winds expected to reach to parts of the south coast tonight and Friday.

Rain is expected to develop this morning and intensify this evening. The rain will continue into Friday before tapering off to showers late in the day. Total rainfall amounts of 50 to 70 mm are expected with the highest amounts over higher terrain.

Snow levels will initially be 300 metres this evening such that some precipitation could fall as wet snow over higher terrain.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Landslides may occur in vulnerable areas such as steep slopes.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
