Temporary relocation of the salt shed to Brennan Park overflow campground to accommodate Public Work
The District is temporarily relocating a salt shed to the overflow campground at Brennan Park in order to accommodate the construction of the new Public Works facility at 39901/39909 Government Road. The main campground will continue to remain open to event bookings only.
The temporary site will be required until the new facility is completed which is anticipated to be up to three years. District staff explored several sites for the temporary relocation, and the Brennan Park overflow campground was determined to be most suitable based on location, site readiness, access and public safety. The site will be paved in order to accommodate the footprint of the salt shed and will be resurfaced once the shed is removed.
All efforts are being made to mitigate noise and any environmental impacts the pertaining to the relocation of the salt shed. Work is expected to begin next week in order to relocate the salt shed in advance of the 2024/25 winter season start.
Impacts:
During construction:
- Increased truck traffic and heavy equipment (excavators and crane)
- Soil removal and paving work
- No lane closures are anticipated
- Corridor Trail will not be impacted
- Trail users are asked to use extra caution and be mindful of trucks turning into the work site
- Construction noise
- Construction is expected to begin in early October and will continue through the end of October
During winter operations:
- During larger snow events, increased traffic should be anticipated with trucks entering and exiting the site on a daily 24/7 basis
- Increased truck noise (truck safety backup beepers)
- The site includes a tree buffer that is anticipated to dampen noise
The Brennan Park Fields and Lands Master Plan (BPFLMP) identifies the future use of the overflow campground as “parking” given its proximity to other key amenities. To learn more and view the plan visit squamish.ca/brennan-park-fields-and-lands-master-plan.
