Filming Fees

When filming in the District of Squamish, you may be required to pay fees depending on the nature of your production.

Fee payment

When all filming in the district is complete and a wrap form has been submitted, the Film & Events Department will issue an invoice. Please note that fees cannot be drawn from the deposit. The deposit will be returned in full once fees are paid.

The District of Squamish accepts payment by:

  • Certified cheque or money order (drawn on a Canadian bank account) 
  • Cash
  • Debit

Filming Fees and Deposits

Filming Application Processing Fee  $150 per application (one application per production or block- includes all days/locations)
Filming Licence Agreement Processing Fee (for filming on municipal property only)  $50 per agreement

Cancellation Fee  $150 
Rush/Late Fee  $500 if application is submitted less than 10 days of filming date
Administrative Fee  15% of total invoice 
Site Meeting $100 per instance
Penalty Fee for failure to obtain a permit prior to filming in Squamish (plus applicable filming fees) $500
Daily Filming Fee:   
 Student Film (ex: Film School short film) $0 (fee waived) 
Indie/Low Budget (ex: Low-budget, indie short, music video, etc. Crew Size 1-7) $150 per day of filming 
Standard TV/Commercial (ex: TV movie, series episode, commercial shoot, crew size 7-15) $300 per day of filming
Major Feature Film/TV (ex: Major film, major streaming series, large crew 15+) $500 per day of filming
Film type will be determined by the Cultural Services Manager and based on production type, crew size, impact, etc.   
Prep & Wrap days 50% of daily production rate X each prep/wrap day 
Security Deposit  Refer to the Filming Policy

No fee or security deposit required for student film projects; students must provide current Student ID with their application and $2M Commercial General Liability insurance. 

Same fees apply to commercial still photography shoots.

A minimum of $5M Commercial General Liability (CGL) insurance naming the District of Squamish is required.

Street Use and Filming Fees

Airport Runway $1,500 per hour to a maximum of $10,000 per day
Airport Taxiway A / Apron $750 per hour to a maximum of $5,000 per day
Airport Vehicle Parking $750 per lot per day
Lost Paid Parking Revenue $450 per lot per day

 

Filming Liaison Fees

District Liaison   Actual Cost 
District Liaisons include District staff and hired liaison contractors who provide oversight for filming, environment, transportation, operations, and airport use. The District may require that a liaison be on-site for the duration of filming (e.g. in a location that has environmental concerns, the airport, or in a municipal building). 

District Liaisons are independent contractors appointed by the district who provide oversight for filming, environment, transportation, operations and airport use. The district may require that a liaison be on-site for the duration of filming including a location that has environmental concerns, the airport, downtown, residential neighbourhoods or municipal parks and buildings. 
 

Insurance

Depending on location and filming activity, each production may be required to provide between $5M to $10M Commercial General Liability insurance naming the District of Squamish as additional insured. $10M is required for all filming activity at the Squamish Airport. $2M is required for Student Film Projects (see 'Student Filming Fees' below). 

Student Filming Fees

Student filming projects are not required to pay for filming application processing fees, licence agreement processing fees or daily filming fees. Furthermore, they are not required to provide a security deposit. Student must provide current Student ID with their application and $2M Commercial General Liability insurance.

Commercial Still Photography Shoots

All of the same fees apply.

Other Fees

Other permits that may be required and may incur fees - please see below:

  • Noise Exemption Permit (for permission to film outside of Noise Regulation Bylaw hours) - fees apply and range from $50-$200 per application (request more information from Film & Events Department)
  • Traffic Regulation Work Permit (for all filming that impacts Municipal roads and sidewalks)
  • Bulk Potable Water Fees - $53.97 per 100 cubes/22,000 gallons
  • Municipal Property Fees - fees vary depending on location, duration, and filming activity (request more information from Film & Events Department)
  • Fire and Police Services - contact Squamish Fire Rescue or Squamish RCMP (phone: 604.892.6100) to discuss your request. All services are dependent on availability. Fees apply.
