Candidate Information Sessions

Two candidate information sessions will be held in the Emergency Operations Centre at Alex Munro Squamish Fire Hall No. 1:

  • Thursday, August 13, 2026 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Thursday, August 20, 2026 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Information for Candidates

Who is qualified to be a member of Council?
A person is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a member of local government if he/she meets the following criteria:

  • is a Canadian citizen;
  • is at least 18 years old on election day;
  • has lived in British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed;
  • a person who has been granted freedom of the municipality, if that person is a Canadian citizen, and
  • has not been disqualified by any statute or law, from voting in an election in British Columbia, or from being nominated for, elected to, or holding office.

How do I get nominated to run in the election?
The Chief Election Officer will accept nominations from Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. to Friday, September 11, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. 

Candidates must be nominated in writing by at least two qualified electors residing or owning property within the boundaries of the District of Squamish.

Nomination packages are available for pickup at Municipal Hall, 37955 Second Avenue or digitally below. Notice of the nomination period will be published in the local newspaper and on the website.

Election Signs

  • Can be erected 45 days before the municipal election
  • Must be removed within three days of the general voting day
  • No permit fee applies but security in the amount of $100.00 is required from the Official Agent for each candidate or sign permit applicant.
