HEARTH project information and Community FAQ

There is an urgent need to address homelessness and encampments in Squamish. BC Housing and the District of Squamish are working together with a variety of committed local partners on short- and long-term strategies to address and prevent homelessness in the community. We are grateful to have been announced as a Phase 2 HEART & HEARTH community by the Province in February.

Understandably, the HEARTH temporary transitional housing project has raised many questions, and we appreciate the community’s patience while project information was developed. BC Housing has now launched a webpage and Community FAQ to provide initial project information and answer some of the questions we have heard to date. These materials will be updated as the project progresses. As well, District of Squamish Council will hear a presentation on the project at an upcoming meeting of Council, date to be announced.
For any site that meets the criteria and is confirmed for this project BC Housing and the District will share accurate, accessible information about the project, answer questions, build relationships, and collect feedback on how to best integrate the housing into the neighbourhood. It is our goal to balance all the needs of the community and prioritize safety, dignity and quality of life for all Squamish residents.
