High Streamflow Advisory issued for Howe Sound

The River Forecast Centre has issued a High Streamflow Advisory for Howe Sound. Rain on the South Coast is forecasted for Saturday, with an estimated 30 to 60 mm of rainfall, with high scenarios in some weather models reaching 100+ mm. Freezing levels are expected to remain high (2,000 m), and additional snowmelt runoff is expected from higher elevations in the region where snow remains.

Rivers are expected to rise rapidly on Saturday and into Sunday in response to heavy rainfall. Rivers in the area may experience enhanced hazard for high flow during this period. While these levels may not be high enough for specific flood concerns, high flows and rapid rises in rivers can pose a hazard for road washouts and public safety for recreationalists.

Stay tuned to the River Forecast Centre for updates.
