Before You Go
Check whether your materials can be recycled or composted before visiting the landfill. Waste audits indicate that more than 70% of waste from single-family homes could be diverted through existing recycling and organics programs.
Before heading to the landfill:
- Use the Waste Wizard to determine how materials should be disposed of.
- Review the landfill map before arriving.
- Separate different material types and group them according to the applicable tipping fee.
Special Materials
Gypsum (drywall) must be separated from other waste and may require a completed Gypsum Declaration Form before disposal.
Accepted Gypsum
- New gypsum off-cuts that have never been installed.
- Gypsum installed after December 31, 1989.
- Pre-1990 gypsum that has been tested and confirmed to be asbestos-free.
Requirements
- A signed Gypsum Declaration Form is required for most gypsum loads.
- Pre-1990 gypsum must be accompanied by documentation confirming it does not contain asbestos.
- Gypsum must be available for inspection before unloading.
Important
- Gypsum containing asbestos is not accepted.
- Customers may be required to provide documentation verifying the age or asbestos-free status of the material.
Resources

Invasive plants must be separated from other yard waste and soil before disposal. Download the Invasive Plant Disposal Protocol (PDF).
Small residential loads
Small amounts of invasive plants can be disposed of:
- In your curbside garbage tote, or
- In the invasive species bin located in the Free Recycling Drop-Off Area at the landfill entrance.
- Invasive plants are not accepted in organics totes.
Large loads
- Large loads of invasive plants must be taken through the landfill scale.
- Call 604-898-5635 at least 48 hours in advance to arrange a drop-off time.
- Inform the scale attendant that you are disposing of invasive plants and follow staff instructions.
Transport requirements
- Transport invasive plants in an enclosed manner, such as bags or under a secured tarp.
- Ensure no plant parts or seeds escape during transport.
Important
- Japanese Knotweed vegetation and knotweed-contaminated soil are not accepted at the Squamish Landfill.
- Soil and fill containing invasive plant material or seeds are not accepted.
- Commercial customers with SSISC Invasive-Free certification may qualify for reduced tipping fees.
Resources
The Squamish Landfill offers free reusable wood from designated clean wood and cedar wood bays in the transfer station. This pilot program helps keep usable wood out of the landfill while providing residents with free materials for reuse.
Before bringing an RV to the Squamish Landfill, it must be prepared for disposal by removing recyclable materials, draining all fluids, and reducing it in size. Failure to complete these steps may result in the RV being refused.
Download the full "How to Dispose of an RV" guide.
Requirements
- Remove all recyclable materials, including tires, metal components, appliances, glass, and other recyclable items.
- Drain and properly dispose of all fluids, including oil and antifreeze.
- Crush or dismantle the RV as much as possible before transporting it to the landfill.
- If the RV exceeds landfill size or weight limits after crushing, it must be broken down into smaller pieces.
- Inform the scale attendant that the RV has been prepared for disposal and follow staff directions for unloading.
Fees
- RVs are charged at the applicable RV Disposal tipping fee.
- Recyclable components may be accepted through existing recycling programs and facilities.
Important
RVs that have not had recyclables removed or fluids drained may not be accepted for disposal.
Materials Not Accepted
- Agricultural waste
- Waste that is on fire, smouldering, flammable or explosive
- Biomedical waste
- Hazardous waste (other than asbestos)
- Dead animals
- Excrement or manure, excluding household pet waste

How to Use the Landfill
Follow these steps and site rules to help ensure a safe visit and accurate disposal charges.
ℹ️ A limited number of vehicles are allowed in at one time, so you may encounter delays. Please respect the traffic lights and be patient.
ℹ️ Keep children and pets in your vehicle for their safety.
ℹ️ Removal of waste materials (scavenging) is prohibited, except for the Pilot Wood Waste Program.
ℹ️ If your load of garbage has over 5%, by weight or volume, of recyclable or compostable material(s), or non-accepted material (e.g. dirt), the Banned Surcharge will be applied.
Have Multiple Material Types?
To receive the correct rates, you must:
- Tell the scale attendant in advance
- Go over the scale separately for each material type.
⚠️ If you drop off all materials at once, you will be charged the highest tipping fee applicable to the entire load.
