Landfill Expansion Access Roads

Project Status: Current

Clearing and road building on the proposed landfill expansion site to facilitate investigative drilling

March 2 through end of April 2026

Budget:
$450,000
Description:

The Squamish Landfill is rapidly approaching capacity and has been exploring options for the future of waste disposal. The option that the District is pursuing and has approved by Council, is to expand the current landfill to the parcel directly to the east.

To ensure that the landfill expansion design meets Provincial requirements, information on the groundwater is required. Tree clearing and forest road construction is required to allow a drill rig to access the site and collect the necessary information.

Impacts:

There will be increased truck traffic at the landfill, tree clearing/falling on the site will result in closures of trails in the area of clearing, and there may be increased dust at the landfill due to truck traffic.

The contractor will have suitable caution signage in place during construction, work areas will be cordoned off with suitable buffers during tree falling and road construction activities.

  • Trail closed signage will be placed at the trail heads.
  • Trail users should avoid this area while work is ongoing.
