Idea: Resilient Power for Disaster Recovery
BCIT, District of Squamish and key partners will collaborate to design and build a resilient emergency power system for disaster management. The system will operate using a reservoir of locally generated, managed and controlled power. The solution will align with specific community goals and parameters which will be confirmed as a first step in the project, but potential project outcomes could include:
-
Supply of emergency power required to keep the necessary heating/cooling systems running for an assembly space for the affected population.
-
Supply of emergency power to District’s public communication systems to keep community communication/messaging systems running.
-
Supply of emergency power to Electric
The proposed project will provide emergency power for disaster recovery situations, and a means to reduce energy footprint and costs during regular, non-emergency operations.
