Idea: Resilient Power for Disaster Recovery

BCIT, District of Squamish and key partners will collaborate to design and build a resilient emergency power system for disaster management. The system will operate using a reservoir of locally generated, managed and controlled power. The solution will align with specific community goals and parameters which will be confirmed as a first step in the project, but potential project outcomes could include:

  • Supply of emergency power required to keep the necessary heating/cooling systems running for an assembly space for the affected population.

  • Supply of emergency power to District’s public communication systems to keep community communication/messaging systems running.

  • Supply of emergency power to Electric

The proposed project will provide emergency power for disaster recovery situations, and a means to reduce energy footprint and costs during regular, non-emergency operations.

The District plans to use the five goals identified within the Squamish2040 Official Community Plan to guide the development of the Challenge statement. Click to view the five goals in a new window.
