Licensing your dog

All dogs over the age of eight weeks must display a current licence tag at all times. All annual dog licences expire on December 31. To avoid late fees, purchase your renewal licence by January 31.

Lost tags can be replaced at a cost of $6.25

How much does a licence cost?

Before January 31:

How to Licence

Dogs licences can not be registered online or over the phone. Please visit Municipal Hall for new registrations. If your dog is spayed or neutered bring a copy of the certificate of spay or neuter.

Dogs spayed or neutered during the year may be eligible for a partial refund.

  Visit our online payment system. You will need the account number on your invoice. If you do not have an invoice, please get in touch with Animal Control. If you do not have your invoice, please contact Animal Control by email or phone 604-815-6866. 
• By Mail
  Submit the bottom portion of the invoice and a cheque to: District of Squamish
  PO Box 310, Squamish, BC, V8B 0A3
• After Hours Drop Box
  Municipal Hall, 37955 Second Avenue.
  Cheque only. Do not leave cash in the drop box.
  The yellow drop box is located on the wall to the right of the main doors.
• In Person
  • Municipal Hall, 37955 Second Avenue
    Cash, credit, debit or cheque.
    Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • RCMP Detachment front counter, 1000 Finch Drive
    Cash, credit, debit or cheque.

Your dog licence fee enables Animal Control to offer the following services:

• Reunites lost and found dogs with their owners.
• Provides for an Animal Control Officer to patrol the community, respond to complaints, educate the public, and enforce the Animal Control Bylaw.
• Helps to resolve neighbourhood issues with nuisance dogs.
• Provides shelter, food, care and comfort for lost, found or surrendered dogs.
• Provides medical care to our adoptable dogs including spaying and neutering.
• Provides doggie bags and dispensers for public use.
• Helps us manage our adoption program.
• Helps us deliver a volunteer dog walking program.
• Besides being a legal form of ownership and registration, it’s the law.
