Search for an item to find out how it should be recycled, composted, donated, or disposed of in Squamish.

Battery Recycling

Batteries are hazardous and should never be placed in the garbage. Squamish residents can recycle most household batteries through:

  • year-round drop-off locations
  • semi-annual curbside collection events
  • AA, AAA, C, D and 9-Volt batteries
  • Rechargeable batteries
  • Lithium-ion batteries
  • Button and coin cell batteries
  • Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd)
  • Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH)
  • Nickel Zinc (Ni-Zn)
  • Small sealed lead-acid batteries

The following batteries are not accepted through these programs:

  • Damaged or defective batteries
  • Vehicle batteries
  • Marine batteries
  • Industrial batteries

Battery Safety and Storage

  • Store batteries in a non-metal container.
  • For safety reasons and to prevent sparks, cover battery terminals with tape or place batteries in individual sealed bags.
  • Keep batteries in a cool, dry location until ready for recycling.

Curbside Battery Collection

Squamish residents can participate in spring and fall curbside battery collection events.

To prepare batteries for collection:

  • Place batteries in a clear, sealable plastic bag.
  • Place the bag on top of your recycling tote on your collection day.

New in 2026: Cell phones, tablets, laptops and video game devices will also be accepted during these collection events.

Year-Round Battery Drop-Off

Batteries can be dropped off year-round at participating locations throughout Squamish, including municipal facilities, government buildings and retail stores.

Reusable Construction Materials

Before disposing of reusable construction and renovation materials, consider donating them to Squamish ReBuild, a local non-profit building supply centre.
