District launches Citizen Satisfaction Survey to hear from a cross-section of Squamish residents
The District is conducting a Citizen Satisfaction Survey (CSS) that will be mailed to a random sample of households to obtain a statistically valid representation of community priorities in Squamish. Results of the survey will help inform District service priorities, strategic planning and budgeting decisions. A survey package has been mailed to a random sample of residential addresses to generate statistically valid results from residents across Squamish neighbourhoods. An online version of the survey is open to all residents at letstalksquamish.ca/citizen-satisfaction-survey. The data from the open online survey will be presented separately from the sample, and compared for similarities and differences.
“Understanding how community values, perceptions and wants might be changing is essential in order to deliver quality municipal services, programs and projects,” says District of Squamish Mayor Armand Hurford. “We’re looking forward to hearing from a random sample of residents to learn from voices we don’t necessarily always hear from. Participating in this survey will help your District team improve decision-making, advocate to other levels of government and respond to the evolving needs of residents.”
All residents have the opportunity to participate in the survey.
There are two options to participate:
- For randomly selected residents who received a survey package in the mail, complete the paper survey and return it using the postage-paid envelope. Alternatively, complete the survey online using a unique ID and QR code at the bottom of the survey.
- For residents who did not receive a survey package, complete the online survey at letstalksquamish.ca/citizen-satisfaction-survey.
Citizen satisfaction surveys are a way to gather information about top-of-mind issues and better understand community needs and preferences for how programs and services are delivered. The survey will help to establish a benchmark so the District can understand its progress and how it compares to other cities, towns and similar sized municipalities. The District plans to conduct a CSS periodically to generate comparable data so the District can understand its progress and how people in the community are doing over time.
For Squamish, the themes of the survey include overall quality of life and wellness, important community issues, District services, communications and public engagement, environment and sustainability, community priorities, and value for tax dollars.
The survey is open through May 12. Results from the survey will be presented to Council in late June.
