Rainfall warning issued for Howe Sound, B.C.

Heavy rain is expected.

Locations: Metro Vancouver, Howe Sound and Fraser Valley.

When: Late overnight to Sunday night.

Total rainfall: Near 50 to 70 mm, except 80 to 100 mm near the North Shore Mountains and Howe Sound.

Other Hazard: Strong south winds 50 km/h gusting to 70 near Boundary Bay.

Remarks: An atmospheric river is setting up over the B.C. South Coast this weekend. Periods of rain will gradually intensify to heavy rain late overnight and continue through Sunday evening. Total rainfall amounts near 50 to 70 mm are expected for most regions, except 80 up to 100 mm over the North Shore Mountains and Howe Sound. Coastal regions near Boundary Bay will also see strong south winds 50 km/h gusting to 70 tonight and Sunday morning.

Heavy rain will ease Sunday night with the passage of the system.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
