Squamish's Director of Development Services makes move to West Vancouver District

The District of Squamish’s Director of Development Services, Chris Bishop, has accepted a new position with the District of West Vancouver as Manager of Development Planning. Bishop has been hired to build and manage a newly formed energetic team spearheading development planning in West Vancouver.

Bishop joined the District of Squamish in the fall of 2006 as a Planner and worked his way to becoming first a Manager, then Director. Prior to his employment with Squamish, he worked for the Resort Municipality of Whistler for 11 years.

“This move to West Vancouver is exciting but at the same time bittersweet as I have fond memories of my time here, the staff team at the District, and the community building efforts the District has undertaken, both realized and ongoing,” said Bishop.

Current Acting Director of Planning Sarah McJannet will continue to oversee the department as the District posts for a permanent Director position. A temporary Planning position is also currently being recruited for to help manage the workload of the department.

“We wish Chris all the best with his new opportunity, but will miss his expertise, community knowledge and all that he contributed to our team,” said Linda Glenday, General Manager of Development Services & Public Works. “The District's Development Services (Planning and Building) Team is a highly skilled and motivated team, open to change and willing to work for a better Squamish. While Chris will be missed, the future of the development industry in Squamish remains in good hands.”

Bishop’s last day with the District was February 13.
