Important Updates

LATEST UPDATE:

Ice repairs are now complete, and the project team is preparing to welcome user groups back to the ice. The arena will re-open tomorrow, Saturday, September 20. Staff are working with user groups to maximize access over the weekend. Thank you for everyone's patience during this challenging time.

We are excited to get you all back on the ice doing the sports you love!

The project team continues to work towards re-opening the Brennan Park Recreation Centre ice arena.

On Tuesday, the required hard ducting was installed to complete the system connection, and the systems were turned on.

Now that the systems are operational, we are seeing improvements to site conditions, and ice repair work is underway to ensure the surface is safe for all users.

We will provide a further update to the community on Friday.

 *******************************************

The project team continues to work through the steps to re-open the Brennan Park Recreation Centre ice arena.

Temporary flexible ducting was installed on Friday as an interim measure while required custom hard ducting was being measured and manufactured. Unfortunately, the flexible ducting did not sufficiently support the powerful machinery components. On Tuesday, the temporary flexible ducting will be replaced with the hard ducting required to complete the system connection. Once the system is operational and humidity levels improve, work to repair and restore the ice will take place. It is anticipated that this work will continue through Friday’s planned facility closure as part of the renovation project.

We recognize this is not the update the community had hoped for. Please be assured this work remains high priority and all efforts are being made to restore ice access.

We will provide a further update to the community on Wednesday.

*******************************************

Based on work underway and detailed coordination required to continue progressing, we can confirm that the arena closure will be extended through this weekend. We will continue to keep you informed with new information and progress, and provide a further update on Friday, September 12.

*******************************************

We acknowledge how frustrated ice users are about the unexpected ice issue, causing the arena to temporarily close. We appreciate that this interruption at the start of the season is disappointing.

Staff are committed to re-opening the arena as quickly as possible so that the ice sports can resume their season. This is high priority, and we ask for your patience while the team is working to achieve this.

We understand the community has many questions about how this happened. We have developed an FAQ to provide answers and transparency.

We thank you for your patience through the significant challenges of this complex work. We will provide an update on timing no later than Friday morning.
