Do you and your subcontractors have a District of Squamish business licence?

Don't let a lack of a valid business licence delay an inspection or approval on your construction project.

The District of Squamish Business Licence Bylaw part 2.6 states that:

2.6 A Licence Holder for a contractor business must:

(a) give notice to every subcontractor or supplier of goods, materials or services that the subcontractor or supplier of goods, materials or services must hold a Licence at the time of providing the goods, materials or services;

(b) ensure that every subcontractor or supplier of goods, materials or services that the subcontractor or supplier of goods, materials or services

(i) obtains and maintains a Licence; and

(ii) provides a copy of the Licence to the Licence Holder for a contractor business; and

(c) retain the copies of the Licences for all of the subcontractors or suppliers of goods, materials or services; and

(d) produces copies mention in subsection 2.6 (c) at the request of the Chief Building Official.

It is the responsibility of the General Contractor to ensure that the businesses involved with each project have a valid District of Squamish business licence.

Prior to completing occupancy inspection for a Building Permit, the Building Inspector may ask for a list of all trades who have worked on the project. Failure to ensure that contractors are licensed can cause delays to inspections and approvals by the Building Department.

If you have an inquiries about business licensing, please contact businesslicence@squamish.ca or call 604.815.5014.
