Drainage systems for buildings are regulated under the BC Building Code. Historically, 18-inch diameter sump pits have been accepted for buildings regulated under Part 9 of the BC Building Code, however the minimum size of a sump pit for a Part 9 building is 24-inches in diameter. This size is based on a minimum surface area of .25 square metres.
The District of Squamish Building Department will provide a grace period after which only .6m (24-inch) sumps will be accepted. This grace period will be extended until May 18, 2018.
If you have any questions about your building or project, please contact the District of Squamish Building Department at 604.892.5217.
