Noise Bylaw Exemption Permits

Please note that it is an offence for Construction Noise to be made from construction activity during the following hours:

  • Weekdays: before 7 a.m. or after 8 p.m.
  • Saturdays: before 8 a.m. or after 7 p.m.;
  • Sundays and statutory holidays: before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m.

“Construction Noise” means any noise, sound or vibration made on or associated with a construction site including one’s own property:

  • in carrying on work in connection with the construction, reconstruction, alteration, repair, or demolition of any building structure or thing;
  • in carrying on any excavation, filling or other operation; or
  • in moving, or operating any machine, engine or equipment;

A Temporary Noise Exemption Permit may be obtained for those construction activities that are exceptionally noisy or for construction activity that must extend beyond the allowable hours because of exigent circumstances.

  • If you are planning any activities outside of these hours, you must apply for a Noise Exemption Permit (approval is not guaranteed).
  • Permit fees apply.

Construction work which does not generate noise is allowed outside of these hours. Please ensure all trades are in compliance.
