Squamish’s winning combination of location, lifestyle and opportunity is again featured as the No. 1 Best City for Work in 2019, according to BC Business magazine. Squamish was ranked No. 1 in 2017 and No. 3 in 2018.
“This recognition provides an opportunity for us to highlight some of the new industries that are creating exciting job opportunities for Squamish’s skilled workforce,” says District of Squamish Mayor Karen Elliott. “It also reinforces our desirable location, entrepreneurial spirit and our unparalleled lifestyle that truly personifies the Squamish brand – we have so much to offer, and we’re working hard to capture opportunities.”
Squamish has attracted clean-energy research companies, recreation technology firms, new housing developments and ongoing development of the recreation and tourism industries.
“There is still an immense amount of work to do in this arena, and we will continue to work with our business community and the Squamish Chamber of Commerce to ensure we’re continuously improving to support existing businesses and attract new investment,” continues Elliott.
With a newly adopted #Squamish2040 Official Community Plan and transformative waterfront projects underway, Squamish is well-positioned for the future.
“Our economic development efforts are focused on what meets the values and vision of the community to ensure we’re growing in the right way,” says District of Squamish Economic Development Officer Kate Mulligan. “We’re actively targeting industries that will balance environment, health, economy and social well-being, as well as ensuring we’re supporting local business through key programs to help with recruitment, retention and growth.”
The fifth annual BC Business ranking of B.C.’s best cities for work measures seven economic indicators that when combined, paint a picture of relative economic health and the relative appeal of a community for those seeking work.
