District of Squamish announces new CAO

The new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the District of Squamish is a familiar face both at Municipal Hall and on some of the most expert mountain bike trails in the area. Linda Glenday, MBA, has been promoted to CAO from her position as Deputy CAO after spending the last four months acting as the interim leader of the organization. Glenday’s leadership style, experience in both the public and private sectors, and her keen ability to seek out creative solutions in pursuit of innovation, efficiency and excellence led to her successful appointment. Glenday’s skills also extend to the natural environment where she is highly proficient on her mountain bike, road bike, and skis, enjoying all that the region has to offer.

“Council is very pleased to appoint Linda as CAO, as she has demonstrated the precise combination of depth of experience, skills and attitude to lead the organization forward at this exciting time in our evolution,” says Mayor Patricia Heintzman. “Essentially Linda has had a four-month interview and she has proven to us that she is the best candidate for this role. I’m very much looking forward to what we can accomplish with Linda leading District staff to reach our goals.”

Glenday’s resume is impressive and mimics one of her steep climbs up Stl’lhalem Sintl’ (Legacy Trail). She has navigated a variety of municipal portfolios in senior leadership roles from Human Resources to Development Services & Public Works, Recreation, and the District’s protective services branch - Squamish Fire Rescue, Emergency Management as well as the RCMP. Over eight years, Glenday has gained valuable insight into all corners of the organization and has been part of large-scale negotiations and policy developments. Prior to joining the District of Squamish she gained invaluable private sector experience working in senior human resources roles in Whistler’s service sector. Glenday received her MBA from Royal Roads University in 2003.

“I am incredibly excited and energized to take on the role of Squamish's CAO,” says Glenday. “I feel privileged to have the opportunity to lead the organization tasked with achieving Council's strategic vision for the community. That involves our amazing staff as well as collaborating with the community, and so I am looking forward to connecting in the context of my new role. I look forward to sharing details of my vision over the coming weeks.”

Glenday has lived in the Sea to Sky Corridor for over twenty years and currently resides in Whistler; though admittedly spends more time in Squamish. “I am inspired by the passion of the people, the beauty of the surroundings, and, of course, the biking (!) in Squamish,” she continues. “Most of my time is spent here - between my time at work, with friends outdoors, and with my brother, who also lives here with his young family.”

The CAO reports directly to Council and manages the day-to-day operations of the organization.

“I have a great deal of hope for this next chapter,” says Heintzman. “Over her eight-year tenure, Linda has truly been a student of this organization and has gained the trust, respect and loyalty of her staff. I see this translating into something very significant– the benefit of continuity, pursuit of excellence, and the ability to keep the momentum high.”
