Squamish Fire Rescue has been training locally-minded people in their goals of serving Squamish as firefighters for over 100 years. Our professional training and on the job experience is a unique opportunity to learn and develop skills as team members, leaders, and highly-skilled firefighters. 

During our annual recruitment drive, we look for positive, energetic and community-minded citizens to join our team of paid on-call firefighters. If you are a permanent Squamish resident, and interested in joining a skilled and dedicated team, we would like to hear from you.

Important Dates

  • Application Intake - August 21 - September 15
  • Applications Under Review - September 18 -21
  • Successful Applicants Notified - September 22
  • Written & Physical Testing Day 1 - September 27
  • Written & Physical Testing Day 2 - October 4
  • Interviews - October 10-12, 16-19
  • Successful Recruits Notified - November 3
  • Recruit Training Begins - December 2

Program Details

Requirements:
  • Must be a permanent resident of Squamish at the time of application
  • Six month recruit program (December to June).
  • Training provided two days a week (one weeknight and one weekend day).
  • 100% attendance is required.
  • Three year personal commitment to Squamish Fire Rescue.
  • Must be 19 years of age

Responsibilities:

  • Bring a positive and inquisitive attitude.
  • Follow all safe operating procedures.
  • Be a timely and conscientious student.

Training Provided:

  • NFPA 1001 FF1 & 2– Standard for Fire Fighting (JIBC Modules 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, and 10)
  • Red Cross Emergency Medical Assistant – First Responder level 3
  • Live Fire Training
  • Wildland 1
  • Emergency Scene Traffic Control
  • ICS 100

Cost:

  • There is no cost to the student.
  • All training and materials are provided as part of your three-year commitment to Squamish Fire Rescue.
