The Squamish Historical Society was founded in 2006 with the mission to collect, preserve, document and showcase the history of Squamish, BC and the surrounding areas of the Howe Sound.
Please visit the Squamish Historical Society website to find out more about the Society, its collections, current projects and activities, how to become a member or sponsor, and links to follow the Society on social media.
The Squamish Historical Society has created a self-guided historical walking tour for locals and visitors to enjoy. In partnership with the Downtown Business Improvement Association, Squamish 2014, Tourism Squamish, Squamish Days and the Squamish Farmers' Market, the map has been installed downtown at the corner of Cleveland Avenue and Winnipeg Street to encourage everyone, young and old, to learn about the Squamish of days gone by. Please click here to view the printable map.
The map was created based on a collaborative project between the Squamish Historical Society, the Downtown BIA and the Squamish Public Library that saw the installation of informational heritage storefront plaques throughout the Downtown core. Each plaque shows an archival Squamish image and is accompanied by a historical write up about the photo and its relevant location. The map creates a walking circle tour with the goal of allowing Downtown visitors to celebrate our community’s rich past and engage with local businesses.
