As part of Local Government Awareness Week, we are seeking some extra support in the Mayor’s Office from our youngest citizens. We are inviting elementary school children to tell us why they would like to be selected as “Mayor for a Day”. The more creative and original the submission, the better the chance of winning! Pictures, posters, videos, poetry, and songs are encouraged.
Students may wish to highlight their knowledge of what local governments do, what they love about Squamish and what they might change to make our community even better.
Two students will be chosen, one from Grades K-3 and one from Grades 4-6. The winners, along with a friend of their choice, will be invited to the District to take a tour of the Police Station, Municipal Hall, Fire Hall No. 1 and always the highlight - a ride in a fire truck! In addition, the winners’ class will enjoy a pizza lunch. “Mayor for a Day” activities will occur during the morning of Wednesday, May 31.
Submission deadline is Friday, May 26 at 5 p.m. Please be sure to include the student’s name, age and grade, teacher’s name and school. Options for entry:
